“The LORD roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds dry up, and the top of Carmel withers.”
Amos begins his prophecy with an image that is both terrifying and majestic — the roar of the Lord from Zion. His voice shakes the land, drying up pastures and withering mountains. God is not silent about injustice, corruption, or unfaithfulness. His roar declares that He sees and He will act.
The roar of God is a warning, but it is also an invitation. To hear His voice is to be called back to holiness, to realign our lives with His righteousness. It is His mercy that speaks before judgment falls.
In Christ, the roar of God is transformed into the Word made flesh. Jesus came not only to confront sin but to bear its judgment in our place. At the cross, the thunder of wrath and the whisper of love meet together. For those who belong to Him, God’s voice is no longer condemnation but the assurance of salvation.
How do you need to respond to God’s “roar” — His clear call to turn from sin and walk in His ways?
Lord, help me not to ignore Your voice. Teach me to hear both Your warning and Your invitation. Lead me back into Your mercy through Christ. Amen.
