Christ in 2 Kings

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
2 Kings 17:13

“The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets... ‘Turn from your evil ways.’”

Devotional

The book of 2 Kings is sobering. Kingdoms crumble. Kings turn away. Prophets are ignored. Both Israel and Judah are taken into exile. What began in glory under David and Solomon ends in ruin and scattering. Yet even in judgment, God’s voice remains.

Through Elijah and Elisha, and then later prophets, God keeps calling His people back. A faithful remnant survives. Hope is not extinguished. Jesus steps into history as the fulfilment of this remnant—faithful where all others failed. He is the true King, the final Prophet, the One who embodies obedience, calls for repentance, and brings restoration from exile. In the ashes of Israel’s collapse, the gospel seed remains, ready to bloom.

Question to consider

Where have you seen God remain faithful, even when everything around seems to fall apart?

Prayer

Faithful God, you do not give up on your people. Even in judgment, you offer mercy and a way home. Help me stay faithful to you in both peace and trial. Amen.
