“But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy, and Jacob will possess his inheritance.”
Amid words of judgment, Obadiah offers a promise: deliverance will come, holiness will be restored, and God’s people will inherit what He has promised. Edom’s pride and violence will not have the final word. God’s plan is bigger, His covenant more enduring, His salvation more certain.
Mount Zion becomes the symbol of God’s faithful presence with His people. Though they had been humbled and scattered, He would gather them again, cleanse them, and give them back their inheritance. This was not based on their strength, but on His redeeming grace.
In Christ, we see the fullness of this promise. He is the Deliverer who brings holiness, the One through whom we become heirs of the kingdom. Our inheritance is not fragile or fading; it is “kept in heaven” for us (1 Peter 1:4). When the world feels uncertain, this promise anchors us in hope.
