Christ in 2 Chronicles

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
2 Chronicles 7:1–3

“When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering... and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.”

Devotional

The temple dedication in 2 Chronicles is breathtaking. God’s presence descends like fire. Worship fills the air. The covenant seems secure. Yet over time, compromise sets in. Idolatry creeps back. Eventually, the temple is destroyed. But the promise is not revoked. One day, a greater temple would come—not built of stone, but in the person of Christ.

Jesus would say, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” He wasn’t talking about bricks—but His body (John 2:19–21). Jesus is the presence of God among us. In Him, God’s glory fills not a building, but a life. And now, through the Spirit, we become His temple—a people marked by His holiness and love.

Question to consider

What does it mean that you are now part of God's living temple in Christ?

Prayer

Jesus, you are the true and living temple. Let your glory fill not just places, but people—starting with me. Shape me into a dwelling where your Spirit is welcome. Amen.
