Christ in Obadiah

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Obadiah 1:15

"The day of the LORD is near for all nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head."

Devotional

The “day of the LORD” is a recurring theme in the prophets — a day of justice when God sets things right. For Edom, it would mean the consequences of their actions returning upon them.

This verse reminds us that God’s justice is certain and universal. No nation, no person, escapes His notice. Injustice will not go unaddressed forever. The scales will be balanced, and wrongs will be righted.

For those in Christ, this day is both sobering and hope-filled. It reminds us that sin is serious, but also that Jesus has borne the judgment we deserve. The justice that could have fallen on our heads fell on His at the cross, so that we might stand forgiven.

Question to consider

How does the certainty of God’s justice shape the way you live today?

Prayer

Lord, thank You for the justice and mercy that meet in the cross. Help me live with both urgency and hope as I await Your return. Make my life reflect Your righteousness. Amen.
