“When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes… ‘Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah about what is written in this book that has been found. Great is the Lord’s anger that burns against us because those who have gone before us have not obeyed the words of this book.’”
King Josiah’s reign is marked by a rediscovery of God’s Word. When the Book of the Law is found and read, he responds with repentance and urgency. He knows that the nation has strayed, and he humbles himself before the Lord.
God’s Word still has the power to awaken hearts today. When we encounter it with open ears, it exposes sin, calls us to repentance, and points us to the grace of God in Christ.
The reform Josiah began reminds us that true revival begins with God’s Word and hearts that are willing to be changed by it.
How has God’s Word recently confronted or encouraged you?
Lord, let your Word shape my life. Give me a tender heart that responds to your truth. Lead me in repentance and renewal. Amen.
