Christ in 1 Kings

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
1 Kings 8:10–11

“When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the Lord. And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled his temple.”

Devotional

At the dedication of Solomon’s temple, God’s presence is made visible through a cloud of glory that fills the house. The moment is so overwhelming that the priests cannot even stand to minister.

God’s glory has always been both awe-inspiring and humbling. It is a reminder that He is not a God we manage or control — He is the holy and majestic Lord who graciously chooses to dwell among His people.

In the New Covenant, His glory does not dwell in a building but in His people through the Holy Spirit. The wonder of the temple dedication points forward to the greater wonder that we are now the temple of God, filled with His Spirit to reflect His glory in the world.

Question to consider

Do you live with a daily awareness that God’s presence dwells in you?

Prayer

Lord, your glory is beyond my comprehension. Thank you for dwelling with me through your Spirit. Make my life a place where your presence is seen. Amen.
