Christ in 2 Kings

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
2 Kings 4:2–4

“Elisha replied to her, ‘How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?’ ‘Your servant has nothing there at all,’ she said, ‘except a small jar of olive oil.’ Elisha said, ‘Go around and ask all your neighbours for empty jars… Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.’”

Devotional

The widow in this story is desperate. Her debts threaten to take her children as slaves. Elisha’s solution begins with a simple question: “What do you have?” In her eyes, she has nothing — but God can work with even the smallest thing.

As she obeys, the oil miraculously flows until every borrowed jar is full. God’s provision meets her need and restores her dignity. In Christ, we see the same principle: He takes what we have, however small, and multiplies it for His glory. A few loaves, a small coin, a jar of oil — in His hands, they become more than enough.

Question to consider

Where might God be inviting you to offer Him the “small jar” you have?

Prayer

Lord, I offer you what I have, even if it feels small. Multiply it for your purposes. Let my life be a testimony to your provision. Amen.
