Christ in Joel

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Joel 2:12–13

"‘Even now,’ declares the LORD, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’ Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity."

Devotional

“Even now.” These are words of incredible grace. No matter how far God’s people have strayed, the invitation to return stands open. Joel reminds them — and us — that God wants more than outward shows of repentance; He desires hearts torn open in genuine surrender.

God’s character is the foundation of this invitation: gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, overflowing with love. This is the same God revealed in Jesus, who calls sinners to Himself, not with condemnation but with grace. To “rend your heart” is to allow God’s truth to pierce deeply, to expose what needs healing, and to invite Him to bring transformation. This is repentance that leads to life.

Question to consider

Where might God be saying to you, “Even now… return to Me with all your heart”?

Prayer

Lord, thank You that it is never too late to return to You. Break open my heart so You can heal it fully. Let my repentance lead to joy in Your presence. Amen.
