Christ in 2 Chronicles

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
2 Chronicles 1:7–10

“That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’ Solomon answered God, ‘You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed… Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?’”

Devotional

Given the chance to ask for anything, Solomon requests wisdom, not wealth or long life. He recognises that leadership over God’s people requires divine guidance, not human cleverness.

God delights in such a request. He grants Solomon wisdom and adds the things he didn’t ask for. This reflects Jesus’ teaching: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” In Christ, we too can ask boldly for the wisdom we need. James 1:5 assures us that God gives generously without finding fault to those who ask.

Question to consider

What would you ask God for if you knew He would grant your request?

Prayer

Lord, give me wisdom for every decision I face. Teach me to value your kingdom above all else. Lead me in the path that honours you. Amen.
