I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Paul’s warning is blunt and urgent. The works of the flesh are not merely bad habits or mistakes; they are evidence of a life opposed to God. Those who persist in them, unrepentant and unchanged, will not inherit His kingdom.
This does not mean that a believer who stumbles is excluded from grace. Paul is addressing a settled pattern, a lifestyle of the flesh. Such a life is incompatible with belonging to Christ. The warning is meant to shake us awake, to remind us of the seriousness of sin.
But it is also meant to turn us to hope. The kingdom of God is not for the flesh but for the Spirit. In Christ, we are given new life. The Spirit empowers us to put the flesh to death and to live as heirs of the kingdom. The warning becomes an invitation: leave behind the old ways and walk into the inheritance prepared for you.
How does Paul’s warning motivate you to take the battle with sin seriously and to cling more tightly to the Spirit?
Father, I take your warning to heart. Keep me from living by the flesh, and by your Spirit lead me into life as an heir of your kingdom. Strengthen me to walk in your ways.
