But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.
Christian freedom is easily misunderstood. Some may take it to mean license, the ability to do whatever we want. But Paul is clear: freedom is not for indulging the flesh. True freedom finds its fulfilment in love.
Notice the paradox: we are set free in order to serve. Not in drudgery, but in love. When the Spirit fills us, freedom is expressed not in selfishness but in self-giving. Serving one another humbly in love is the truest expression of liberty in Christ, for it reflects His own life.
In a culture that prizes self-expression, personal gain, and autonomy, this is radically countercultural. Our freedom finds its purpose in the good of others. When we love, we are most free, because we are walking in step with God’s Spirit.
How can you use your freedom in Christ this week to serve someone in love?
Father, teach me that freedom is not for myself alone but for serving others. Fill me with your Spirit so that my liberty leads to love. Help me walk in humble service today.
