Walking by the Spirit

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Galatians 5:16

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Devotional

Paul’s answer to the pull of the flesh is simple yet profound: walk by the Spirit. This is not a one-time decision but a daily posture, a continual step-by-step reliance on God’s Spirit.

Notice the promise: if we walk by the Spirit, we will not gratify the flesh. The Spirit and the flesh pull in opposite directions; when we follow one, the other loses its grip. The Christian life is not about sheer willpower but Spirit-powered living.

To walk by the Spirit is to remain close, attentive, and responsive, like walking with a friend. The Spirit leads us into love, joy, peace, and the fruit that reflects Christ. Walking with Him keeps us from stumbling into the old ways of the flesh.

Question to consider

What practices help you walk closely with the Spirit in your daily life?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, help me to walk with you today. Keep my steps aligned with your leading, and guard me from the pull of the flesh. Teach me to depend on your presence.
