You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free.
Freedom is at the heart of the gospel. Paul reminds the Galatians that their calling in Christ is not to slavery but to freedom. No longer bound by the heavy yoke of the law, no longer trapped under sin’s dominion, we are set free by the grace of Christ.
But freedom here is not merely the absence of restrictions. It is the gift of a new identity, children of God, liberated to live in love and truth. Christian freedom is not aimless; it is purposeful. It releases us from the bondage of sin so that we may walk in the Spirit.
This freedom comes at a cost. Christ has purchased it with His blood. To live as though we were still enslaved is to deny His gift. As we begin this journey through Galatians 5, remember: you are called not to chains, but to liberty.
What does it mean for you personally that Christ has called you to freedom?
Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me to freedom. Help me not to return to old chains but to live in the liberty you have given me. Teach me to treasure this gift each day.
