Idolatry and witchcraft…

Devotional

Next, Paul highlights religious distortions: idolatry and witchcraft. These represent attempts to replace God with counterfeit powers. Idolatry is giving ultimate devotion to something less than God. Witchcraft is the pursuit of control through spiritual forces apart from Him.

Though modern life may not always use these words, the reality remains. Idolatry can be wealth, success, technology, or even good things made ultimate. Witchcraft represents any attempt to manipulate outcomes apart from trusting God, seeking control in ways that deny His sovereignty.

The Spirit leads us into true worship. He sets our hearts on Christ, the only One worthy of devotion. Where idolatry enslaves, worship in the Spirit frees. Where witchcraft distorts, the Spirit’s power brings truth and light.

Question to consider

What idols or false sources of control compete for your trust and devotion today?

Prayer

God, reveal the idols in my life and tear them down. Keep me from seeking power apart from you. Fix my heart on Christ, the only One worthy of worship.
