For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
Paul brings the law into sharp focus: its fulfilment is love. Every command of God finds its purpose in this one directive. Love is not an optional add-on to Christian faith; it is the very heart of it.
This means that freedom and love are not opposed. True freedom is the power to love without fear. In loving our neighbour as ourselves, we honour the law’s deepest intent, not through external obligation, but through Spirit-filled transformation.
The law could command love but could not produce it. Only the Spirit can write love on our hearts. When Christ lives in us, His love flows through us, enabling us to do what the law always pointed to.
Where is God inviting you to embody His law of love in a concrete way today?
God of love, thank you that your law finds its fulfilment in love. Teach me to love my neighbour as myself and to reflect the love you have shown me in Christ.
