But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
Being led by the Spirit means that our lives are directed, shaped, and empowered by God Himself. The Spirit is not merely a helper who comes alongside but the very guide who sets the course. To follow His leading is to live in freedom.
Paul contrasts this with life “under the law.” The law demanded obedience but could not give the power to obey. The Spirit, however, writes God’s law on our hearts and enables us to live it out. Where the law brought condemnation, the Spirit brings transformation.
This leadership of the Spirit is not coercive but relational. The Spirit whispers, prompts, convicts, and guides us into Christlikeness. Our role is to listen and yield. True freedom is not doing whatever we want—it is gladly following the One who knows the way of life.
What does it mean for you today to be “led by the Spirit” instead of striving under the law?
Holy Spirit, thank you that you lead me into freedom. Help me to listen to your voice and follow your direction with trust and joy. Keep me from slipping back under the weight of law.
