In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for…
Paul speaks directly to our frailty: we are weak. Even in prayer, we stumble. Often we do not know what to ask, how to frame our needs, or even where to begin. This is part of being human in a broken world. But into this weakness, the Spirit comes as our Helper.
The Spirit does not scold us for our weakness, He meets us there. He shoulders the burden, lifts what we cannot carry, and intercedes when our words falter. Our weakness is not an obstacle to God’s work; it is the very place where His Spirit steps in.
This truth frees us from guilt over faltering prayers. God does not require eloquence or perfection, He gives His Spirit to translate our sighs, groans, and half-formed words into heaven’s language. Our weakness becomes the place of deepest intimacy with Him.
When have you experienced the Spirit’s help in your weakness, especially in prayer?
Holy Spirit, thank you for helping me in my weakness. When I do not know how to pray, carry my heart to the Father. Teach me to rest in your intercession.
