The Spirit Groans For Us

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Romans 8:26b-27

…but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Devotional

The Spirit not only helps in weakness, He groans for us. These groans are deeper than words, expressions of divine compassion that reach the Father’s heart. They align perfectly with God’s will, ensuring that our prayers are heard and answered rightly.

This truth is staggering: the Spirit of God prays for you. He enters into your struggles, carries your burdens, and intercedes constantly on your behalf. Even when your prayers are confused or silent, the Spirit’s intercession never ceases.

God, who searches our hearts, perfectly understands the Spirit’s groaning. There is no gap between our needs and God’s will, because the Spirit bridges it. This gives us profound assurance, our prayers are never wasted, and we are never alone in prayer.

Question to consider

How does it comfort you to know that the Spirit Himself intercedes for you with groans too deep for words?

Prayer

Spirit of God, thank you that you groan for me when I cannot speak. Align my heart with the Father’s will, and remind me that I am never alone in prayer.

Conclude with silence (2 minutes)
