The Spirit Testifies With Our Spirit

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Romans 8:16

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Devotional

The Spirit does more than bring us into God’s family, He assures us that we belong there. He bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children. This inner testimony is a precious gift, especially in moments of doubt or fear.

Sometimes our hearts condemn us, or circumstances make us question God’s love. In those times, the Spirit whispers within: You are His. You belong. You are loved. This assurance is not based on feelings alone but on the Spirit’s own witness, grounded in God’s Word and sealed by Christ’s work.

This truth anchors us. Our identity is not fragile, depending on performance or circumstances. It is secure, because it rests on God’s declaration and the Spirit’s confirmation. The Spirit Himself becomes the witness who strengthens our hearts and reminds us that nothing can sever us from God’s family.

Question to consider

Have you experienced the Spirit’s assurance that you are God’s child? How might you open yourself to hear His witness more deeply?

Prayer

Spirit of God, thank you for testifying to my heart that I am your child. When doubts rise, remind me of your truth. Anchor my identity in your unfailing love.
