Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Romans 8:15b

…And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’

Devotional

The Spirit of adoption gives us not only a new status but also a new voice. By Him we cry out, “Abba, Father.” This is the language of intimacy, the word a child uses for their dad. It expresses both tenderness and trust.

This cry is not a formality; it is spontaneous and heartfelt. It rises not from fear but from assurance. The Spirit moves within us so that we approach God not as a distant judge but as a loving Father who welcomes our voice.

Think of this: the Creator of the universe invites you to call Him “Abba.” You are not a slave grovelling before a master, nor a stranger knocking at the door, you are His child, welcomed into His embrace. The Spirit teaches us to pray with the confidence of beloved sons and daughters.

Question to consider

How often do you come to God with the freedom and trust of a child saying “Abba”? What holds you back?

Prayer

Abba Father, thank you that by your Spirit I can call you my Father. Draw me into deeper intimacy with you, and teach me to pray with childlike trust.
