Heirs With Christ

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Romans 8:17

Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Devotional

Adoption not only gives us a new name; it gives us a new inheritance. As God’s children, we are heirs, heirs of God Himself, and co-heirs with Christ. Everything that belongs to the Son is shared with those who belong to Him.

This inheritance is not measured in earthly wealth but in eternal glory. We are destined to share in the riches of God’s kingdom, the fullness of His presence, and the splendour of Christ’s reign. To be an heir of God is to look forward to glory beyond imagining.

But Paul also reminds us that the path to glory runs through suffering. To share in Christ’s inheritance is to share in His sufferings. This does not mean we seek pain, but that we faithfully follow Him, knowing that trials and opposition are part of belonging to Him. Yet even here there is hope: suffering with Christ is not the end but the preparation for sharing in His glory.

Question to consider

What does it mean to you that you are a co-heir with Christ, sharing both His sufferings and His glory?

Prayer

Father, thank you that as your child I am also your heir. Give me strength to endure suffering with Christ, and fill me with hope for the glory to come.
