So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.
Samuel then went to Ramah.
David was anointed king — but nothing changed. He went back to the field. Back to the sheep. The throne was promised, but not yet given.
This is one of the hardest kinds of threshold moments: when God has spoken something over your life, but the fulfilment seems far off. The temptation is to strive, to prove, or to despair.
But David waited. He served faithfully. He honoured Saul, even when mistreated. He trusted God’s timing more than his own ambition.
Threshold seasons are refining seasons. The field trains the future king. And the quiet places build the kind of heart God can trust with influence.
If you’re living in the space between promise and fulfilment, don’t give up. Stay faithful in the field. God sees — and He finishes what He begins.
Has God placed a calling or dream on your life that feels delayed — and how can you remain faithful while you wait?
God, I trust your timing. Help me serve faithfully in the now, even as I wait for what’s next. Shape my heart in the field for whatever throne you have prepared.
