Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
The wilderness was not the destination — it was the space between. Israel had been freed from Egypt, but not yet arrived in Canaan. And in that long in-between, God was doing something deeper than giving directions. He was shaping hearts.
Threshold seasons test what’s inside us. They expose our cravings, our impatience, our desire for control. But they also become places of provision. Daily manna. Cloud and fire. Water from rocks.
Sometimes, in the waiting, we discover what we really trust — and more importantly, who we really trust. Jesus quoted this very passage in His own wilderness testing. He knew that life doesn’t come from instant solutions, but from God’s presence and promises.
Don’t despise the wilderness. God leads you there for a reason — and He never wastes a journey.
What has the wilderness season in your life been revealing — and what daily provision is God offering you there?
Lord, teach me to trust you in the dry places. Feed me with your Word, and help me believe that you are working in me, even when progress feels slow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
