Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Exodus 14:13-16

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again.

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on.

Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.”

Devotional

Some threshold moments feel like cliffs. Behind you — the threat of slavery. Ahead — the impossible sea. The Israelites stood in the terrifying space between bondage and breakthrough.

God’s command was bold: “Move on.” But where? There was no bridge. No boat. Only the promise that He would make a way.

Threshold seasons often demand a strange kind of courage — not to rush ahead, but to move when God says move, and stand still when He says wait. Both are acts of faith.

Moses stretched out his hand, and the sea parted. But notice: the miracle didn’t come before the step — it came with it. Obedience unlocked the path.

When you’re standing at your own sea, remember: you don’t walk alone. The God who parted the waters still makes a way.

Question to consider

Where do you feel stuck between fear and faith — and what would it look like to take a step forward, even if you can’t see the path?

Prayer

Father God, I trust you even when the way isn’t clear. Give me faith to move when you say move, and peace to stand still when you say wait. Amen.
