“…for I am gentle…”
Jesus tells us something remarkable about His own heart. “I am gentle.” Think about the people who approached Jesus in the Gospels. A leper. A grieving widow. A frightened father. A woman caught in sin. A disgraced tax collector. Children. The sick. The poor. People with questions. People who had failed. They discovered extraordinary strength in Jesus, but His strength was never cruel. He was gentle.
Gentleness does not mean weakness. Jesus could confront hypocrisy, command storms and overturn tables. Yet His power remained perfectly governed by love. This matters because the One who invites weary and burdened people to come is safe to approach.
Perhaps your image of God has sometimes been shaped by harsh people. You may imagine that God’s first response to your weakness is frustration. Listen instead to Jesus describe His own heart: “I am gentle.”
You can bring Him your failure. You can bring Him your confusion. You can bring Him the part of your life you wish were different. The hands that hold the universe are gentle hands. And as we live close to Jesus, His gentleness begins to reshape the way we treat other people too.
How would your relationship with Jesus change if you deeply believed that His heart toward you is gentle?
Jesus, thank You for revealing Your heart. Help me trust Your gentleness enough to bring You every part of my life. And form that same gentleness in the way I treat others today. Amen.
