This is what the Lord says: ‘Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,’ declares the Lord.
God speaks directly to our misplaced pride. Human beings love to boast, in wisdom, in strength, in wealth. In the modern world, wisdom often means intelligence, innovation, or technological achievement. Yet God says all of that falls short. True boasting is not in what we know, but in who we know.
Knowledge without God is empty. Knowledge that leads to knowing Him, this is the treasure. Notice the qualities God delights in: kindness, justice, and righteousness. These are not the outputs of an algorithm; they are the fruit of a relationship with the living God.
Our world may marvel at “super intelligence,” but the Lord calls us to something deeper: to know Him personally. That is the knowledge that brings life, humility, and joy.
Where are you tempted to boast in human achievements? How can you instead boast in knowing the Lord?
Lord, teach me to boast only in you. May my joy be not in wisdom, strength, or riches, but in knowing you and walking in your kindness, justice, and righteousness.
