The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Babel showed us where knowledge without God leads; confusion and scattering. The book of Proverbs reminds us of the opposite: knowledge begins not with human effort, but with reverence for God.
We may gather data, build algorithms, and push the limits of machine intelligence, but without God, it is only noise. True knowledge is relational, it flows from awe before the One who is the source of all wisdom.
The “fear of the Lord” is not terror, but humble reverence. It’s the recognition that He is God and we are not. Every human attempt to master knowledge apart from Him ends in futility. But when we begin with Him, wisdom becomes not just information, but transformation.
What would it look like for you to begin each day with “the fear of the Lord” in how you seek wisdom?
Lord, teach me that wisdom starts not with me, but with you. May I live in reverence, seeking knowledge that honours your name.
