Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
Psalm 23:2b

…he leads me beside quiet waters…

Devotional

Sheep need water to survive, but they are easily frightened by rushing streams. A good shepherd leads them to gentle, quiet waters, safe places where they can drink and be refreshed. David sees God’s care in this tender image: the Lord leads His people to waters that bring peace, not fear.

This verse reminds us that God does not merely provide for our survival; He provides for our peace. He knows our vulnerabilities and fears, and He guides us to what restores us. In Him, we find calm in the midst of life’s turbulence.

Quiet waters also speak of the Spirit. Jesus promised that “whoever believes in me… rivers of living water will flow from within them” (John 7:38–39). The Spirit is the stream of God’s presence, bringing refreshment to weary souls. Where the world stirs restlessness, the Spirit gives stillness. Where the heart churns with anxiety, He leads us to peace.

To follow the Shepherd is to be led into calm. Even when life swirls with chaos, His presence creates quiet waters within us.
