My cup overflows.
David’s language overflows with gratitude. The Shepherd’s provision is not stingy but abundant. The Host does not pour sparingly; He fills the cup until it spills over. God’s generosity exceeds our need and expectation.
This overflowing cup is a picture of grace. We are not given just enough to scrape by; we are given more than enough to rejoice in. His blessings are not measured out with reluctance but poured out with lavish kindness. Even in the valley or in the presence of enemies, the cup still overflows.
For us, this is fulfilled in Christ, who said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). The Spirit pours God’s love into our hearts until it brims over. When the Shepherd is our Host, lack is replaced with abundance, and fear is replaced with joy.
Where in your life can you see the Shepherd’s overflowing goodness, even if circumstances are hard?
Generous God, thank you that my cup overflows with your grace. Teach me to see your abundance, rejoice in it, and share it with others.
