My Father’s house has many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
Jesus comforts His disciples with a promise: He goes ahead to prepare a place. Death does not cast us into the unknown but leads us into a home prepared by Christ Himself. The imagery is deeply personal, He prepares a room for His own. The picture of a house is meant to point us to the reality that Christ himself is the house. There is room in Christ for all who would believe. In Christ there is eternal life.
This means that death is not abandonment but welcome. The Shepherd who leads us here will receive us there. Heaven is not just a destination but a homecoming, where the Father’s house is open, the Son is present, and the Spirit’s work is complete.
Let fear give way to anticipation. The One who has loved you in life waits with arms open wide in death.
Lord Jesus, thank you for preparing a place for me. Help me to rest in your promise and look forward with hope to being with you forever.
