The Resurrection Hope

Silence and stillness before God (2 minutes)
Scripture reading
Scripture reading:
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

We do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.

Devotional

Christian grief is real, but it is different, it is soaked in hope. We mourn, but not as those without hope. Jesus died and rose again, and those who die in Him will also rise. Death is not the end but sleep from which Christ will awaken His people.

This hope does not diminish sorrow, but it anchors it. We cry, but we also wait with confidence. The grave is not a full stop but a comma, leading into resurrection life.

Question to consider

How does the resurrection hope change the way you carry grief?

Prayer

Risen Lord, thank you that death is not the end. Comfort me with the hope of resurrection and the joy of reunion in your presence.

Conclude with silence (2 minutes)
