The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
As death draws near, fear often whispers its presence. Yet the psalmist begins with a defiant declaration: The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? God’s presence does not remove the valley but floods it with light.
For the believer, death is not an enemy to dread but a doorway to eternal life in Christ. Jesus has gone before us, and the sting of death has been removed (1 Corinthians 15:55–57). The One who has been our light in life will also be our light in death.
To rest in this truth is to find peace. Fear may knock, but it need not rule. The Shepherd who has guided every step of the journey will not abandon His child now. Even in the shadow of death, His light shines.
Lord, be my light when shadows fall. Take my fears and fill me with the peace of your presence. You are my salvation, whom shall I fear?
