32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” He was speaking to people who wanted Him to provide another meal. Jesus wanted to give them something deeper: Himself.
Many roads to ruin begin with hunger. We feel empty and reach for whatever promises immediate satisfaction. But temporary pleasures cannot carry the weight of our deepest need.
Jesus does not merely give us bread. He is the bread. He does not only point toward life. He is life.
Coming to Jesus does not mean every human longing disappears. It means our desires are no longer expected to save us. Pleasure, romance, possessions, experiences and achievement can be received as gifts, but none of them can become our god.
The narrow way leads us again and again to Christ, the only One who can satisfy the deepest hunger of the soul.
What have I been asking to satisfy a hunger that only Jesus can meet?
Jesus, Bread of Life, meet me in my deepest hunger. Forgive me for seeking ultimate satisfaction in temporary things. Fill me with Your presence and teach me to desire You above all. Amen.
